MBA in Marketing Required Courses

The primary objective of Innovation and Product Development is to introduce students to concepts related to the marketing of innovation, new processes, and new products. The course will discuss and apply tools and concepts required to assist in analyzing the viability of innovations, new products, and new processes. At the conclusion of this course, students will have a greater understanding of the innovation process. Integral to the overall perspective of the course, students will develop important analytical capabilities related to the initiation, implementation, and completion of the innovation process as it pertains to the marketing function.

The objective of this course is to extend and apply marketing and its management, including principles, concepts, and theories, to international and global contexts. A series of marketing issues and considerations become critically important at the international level, whereas they are much less important in domestic markets. For example, global firms favor marketing standardization of marketing, but to be viable local competitors, they must adapt their marketing strategies to local markets. These are diametrically opposing actions which we address within the context of environmental influences upon marketing strategy development. Additionally, global firms must simultaneously enter and manage multiple markets, lines of business, and product groups. Environmental contexts represent important determinants of these differences and much time shall be devoted to the coverage of these important aspects of international and global marketing. Case studies, readings, and research provide a key vehicle with which we achieve these goals.

Students will learn how to analyze marketing data to help make decisions about market segmentation and target market selection; new product and service development; product positioning; and allocation of marketing mix expenditures to accomplish objectives. The research process with emphasis on evaluation and interpretation of marketing research.
